What to ask before you hire
General questions worth asking any company. They are not about PHANGELA PRIVATE SECURITY SERVICES (PTY) LTD in particular.
Armed response
- What response time do you commit to for my street, and is it written into the contract?
- Is the contract month to month or fixed term, and how much notice does cancelling need?
- Who owns the alarm equipment if I cancel?
- Are your response officers registered with PSIRA?
CCTV installation
- Is footage recorded on site, in the cloud or both, and for how many days is it kept?
- Can I view the cameras on my phone, and who else can see the footage?
- Will the cameras cover my property without filming neighbours or the street more than necessary?
Alarm systems
- Is the alarm monitored, and by which control room?
- Are the sensors wired or wireless, and how long do the batteries last?
- Does the panel keep working through load-shedding, and for how long?
Any security company
- Ask for the company's PSIRA registration number and check it yourself on the official PSIRA register.
- Ask whether the staff who will install or respond are individually registered with PSIRA.
